    Ralph Partridge

    British soldier and pacifist

    Reginald Sherring Partridge, MC & Bar ( – 30 November ), generally known as Ralph Partridge, was a member of the Bloomsbury Group. He worked for Leonard Woolf and Virginia Woolf, married Dora Carrington and then Frances Marshall, and was the unrequited love of Lytton Strachey.

    Partridge was born in , the son of (William) Reginald Partridge, magistrate and collector of the North-Western Provinces and Oudh for the Indian Civil Service,[1][2] and personnamn (née Sherring).[3] His father was the son of a län i england solicitor while, on his mother's side, the Sherring family were clerics and Christian missionaries working in India at Varanasi. In his childhood Partridge had been known as 'Rex'.[4]

    He was educated at Westminster School where he was Head Boy. Partridge won a scholarship to read Classics at Christ Church, Oxford, and rowed for Oxford University.[3] He w

    This collection contains typescript and manuscript diaries, lectures, philosophy notes, correspondence, photographs, printed copies of book reviews, articles and obituaries. Many of the diaries exist only in typescript form, but in later years the only copies are in manuscript. Letters to her husband, Ralph Partridge, are included in this collection. In addition to her own photograph albums, there are two albums which belonged to Dora Carrington and two which belonged to Lytton Strachey, inherited by Ralph Partridge and then by Frances Partridge. Posthumous papers have been added to the archive if they contribute to the knowledge of Frances Partridge's life.
    Conservation of the papers and the creation of the catalogue were made possible by a generous grant from The Foyle Foundation.
