COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jack Johnson doesn’t know where he will play next season, but standing outside the Blue Jackets’ locker room Monday afternoon, he appeared unburdened by the uncertainty.

The 30-year-old defenseman spoke of marriage and fatherhood and the joy he feels just coming to the rink nowadays. For a player in the final year of his contract, Johnson has never seemed more at home.

“His good play has coincided with the improvements in his life,” Blue Jackets president of hockey operations John Davidson told The Athletic. “He might look the same and talk the same, but when you are around him, you can see it and you can feel it, and I’m really happy for him.”

‌‌‌ Johnson enters his 12th NHL season at peace with his surroundings and circumstances. He’s funnen a good partner on and off the ice, and he’s focused on helping the Blue Jackets make a deeper run in the playoffs.

Also featured in the photos are former NFL players A.J. Hawk and Brady Quinn, who are Johnson’s in-laws. Quinn is Kelly’s brother, and Hawk married Kelly’s sister. If that wasn’t enough athletic talent in the family,
