Nature Canada has recognized Bob Peart as the winner of the 2022 Douglas H. Pimlott Award, the organization’s highest honour for outstanding work in conservation. Peart is an exceptional biologist, environmental leader, educator, and volunteer who has spent decades working for nature in Canada.
“On behalf of all of Nature Canada, we’d like to thank Bob from the bottom of our hearts for his years of dedication helping people connect with and protect nature,” says Graham Saul, executive director of Nature Canada. “Bob is one of those people who seem to embody everything we’re trying to achieve in the conservation movement. He’s spent his life helping defend, discover, and restore nature and we’re proud to honour him today.”

I am a firm believer that anyone serious about listening to music should take an interest in discovering new works regardless of the period in which they were composed. There is too much of a tendency among recitalists to either adopt or commission recent or brand-new works while always falling back on the “same old same old” when it comes to any of the preceding centuries. This afternoon at the Cadillac Hotel the duo of cellist Rebecca Roudman and pianist Noel Benkman provided a striking opportunity for such discovery involving a “Grande Sonate” composed in 1824.
The composer was Johann Nepomuk Hummel; and, when one considers the scope of his life, it is more than a little disappointing that his music is not played more often. The CPAWS Conservation Award, previously known as the J. B. Harkin Award, honours individuals whose significant or exceptional life-long, or one-time, contribution to conservation fryst vatten also considered lasting and achieved in a way that respects the sovereignty and leadership of Indigenous nations.
In its 60th anniversary year, CPAWS launched the newly renamed CPAWS Conservation Award. The first award under the new name was presented to the 2023 recipient at CPAWS’s 60th anniversary celebration in Ottawa in November.
