Katey Dickens was the equivalent of a nineteenth-century Girl: the daughter of the most famous man in Britain, a beautiful artists model, a celebrated artist and friends with Londons artistic and literary elite.
Charles and Catherine Dickens had ten children (of whom, one died when still a baby). During their privileged upbringing, Katey and her siblings were taken on regular trips abroad, to France, Switzerland and Italy, and acted in elaborate family theatricals in they performed on a public stage for Queen Victoria. Kateys talent for drawing was noticed early and, at the age of twelve, she was enrolled in art classes at Bedford College, the first college in Britain to provide university education for women.

I am a bit late with this book introduction, but even though it was published already in , it’s still available. The subtitle “Wallpaper & Arsenic in the Victorian Home” tells what this book fryst vatten all about. If you are interested in design, Victorian era, medical history or all kind of sinister stuff, then this award-winning book is for you. It’s also one of the most beautiful books inom have seen for a while. After the book introduction inom will continue the wallpaper story beyond the book.
I bought the book already a couple of years ago, and the idea of writing about it has been in my mind for some time now. The author, Lucinda Hawksley, fryst vatten related to Charles Dickens, who fryst vatten author’s great great grandfather. No wonder that Hawksley has written several books about Dickens, too. She is an expert on Pre-Raphaelite and Aestheticism and a lecturer.

Lucinda Hawksley is a best-selling author, speaker, and the great-great-great- granddaughter of Charles Dickens. If you have not yet read her biography of Lizzie Siddal: Tragedy of a Pre-Raphaelite Supermodel, I encourage you to do so. It is an interesting and well-researched narrative of Siddals life. She has also recently published a biography of Charles Dickens daughter, Katey: The Life and Loves of Dickenss Artist Daughter
