Dave Pensado is a man who requires minimal introduction. He’s a world class, Grammy Award-winning mix engineer who’s worked on countless hit records. With mix credits including Michael Jackson, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Elton John, Christina Aguilera and Jill Scott, Dave is acknowledged as one of the leading online educators for all things audio.
His career began in Atlanta in the 1970s and 1980s doing live and studio sound engineering. He has lived in Los Angeles since 1990. He mixes between 200 and 250 songs a year at Larrabee Studios in Los Angeles. When recording, he usually records at Echo Bar Studios in North Hollywood.
In 2011, he started a weekly show called Pensado's Place with Herb Trawick. The show is about engineering techniques and interviews and hosts a guest Mixer, Producer or Artist each episode. What is the future of “Pensado’s Place.” Do you have a definite plan, an indefinite plan?
I see it having a definite future. I may hand it off to someone else, but as long as people care, it’ll still be on. It’s all about hanging with my friends. I’ve always envisioned the show having an importance – it might morph, it might change just like our industry changes and our profession of mixing has changed.
Mixing in 2011 is 60 percent different than mixing in the 90s. I’ll have people on the show to help us feel into the future – it’s how to make a living – it’s how to learn – it’s a broad, almost impossible task, but it’s fun.
What people don’t know is that I don’t allow the show to be edited. It’s live because that’s who we [my guest’s and I] are. Only time there would be an edit is if a guest said something that he later thought was un

Dave Pensado is counted among the recording industry’s most distinguished mix engineers.
His career began in Atlanta in the 1970s, where he engineered sound for live shows and studios; He relocated to Los Angeles in 1990, and has since mixed countless hit records by Christina Aguilera, Pink, Shakira, Beyoncé, Flo Rida, Afrojack, Michael Jackson, Kelly Clarkson, Elton John, and Jill Scott, to name but a few. In 2008, he won his first Grammy award for the skiva ‘Growing Pains’ by Mary J. Blige.
In 2011, Dave started a weekly show about engineering called Pensado's Place, and he is now acknowledged as one of the leading online educators for all things pro audio. Alongside his passion for teaching, Dave Pensado remains at the forefront of professional mixing for the world’s top-tier pop artists.
