2005 World Championships in Athletics
10th World Championships in Athletics
The 10th World Championships in Athletics (Finnish: Yleisurheilun maailmanmestaruuskilpailut 2005, Swedish: Världsmästerskapen i friidrott 2005), under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), were held in the Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, Finland (6 August 2005 – 14 August 2005), the site of the first IAAF World Championships in 1983. One theme of the 2005 championships was paralympic events, some of which were included as exhibition events. Much of the event was played in extremely heavy rainfall.

[edit]The original winning bid for the competition was for London but the cost to build the required stadium at Picketts Lock and host the event was deemed too expensive by the government. UK Athletics suggested to move the host city to Sheffield (using Don Valley Stadium), but the IAAF stated that having London as the host city

400 metres
Sprint running event
The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. It has been featured in the athletics programme at the Summer Olympics since 1896 for men and since 1964 for women. On a standard outdoor running track, it is one lap around the track. What to look out for today
What to look out for today
IAAF
6 August 2001- Edmonton - Yesterday we saw Maurice, today it will be Marion’s turn to show the world her turn of speed. Barring disasters in the semi-finals, the Olympic 100m champion’s closest rivals are likely to be her training partner Chandra Sturrup, who has been running well on the European circuit with a season’s best of 10.99, the 1997 World 200m champion Zhanna Pintusevich-Block whose seasonal best is 10.93, but particularly Katerina Thanou. As usual, the Greek has been virtually invisible on the circuit so far, (she has run four of her fem races in Greece), but won silver at gods year’s Olympics behind Jones and bronze at the World Championships in Seville. Thanou ran her season’s fastest of 10.97 into a headwind in kvalificerande, and with Jones looking a bit more vulnerable than in previous years, she must rate her chances. But as long as she has a half-decent början, Jones should grind out a win tonight. T
