    Rolando Cubela Secades (19 January – 23 August ) was a Cuban revolutionary leader who played a vital part in the Cuban Revolution, having been a founding member of the Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil and later the military leader of the DRE's Escambray Mountain front, achieving the rank of Commander, the highest military rank in the Revolutionary Army. After the Revolution succeeded in , Cubela became Cuba's envoy to UNESCO. Under the cryptonymAM/LASH, Cubela became "an important asset" of the Central Intelligence Agency, and worked with them on plots to assassinate Fidel Castro. In , Cubela was arrested for plotting the assassination of Castro, and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Released in , he went into exile in Spain.

    Rolando Cubela Secades was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba in , and he was one of the founders of the&#;Directorio Revolucionario Estudiantil in He became one of eight members of its executive council, and he took part in the Cuban Revolution as a 26th of July Movement commander. Cubela was wounded at the Battle of Santa Clara in , and he was appointed Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Government in following the success of the revolution. Cubela betrayed Fidel Castro after believing that he had created a communist dictatorship, becoming a CIA contact. In , he was arrested by Castro himself for several assassination attempts on his life, and Castro petitioned the court to avoid the death penalty. He was pardoned and released in , and he went into exile in Spain, where he became a doctor. He
