Who is L.M. Montgomery?
Born in in Clifton PEI, Maud Montgomery was raised in Cavendish by her Macneill grandparents after her mother’s death. She spent the majority of the first half of her life on the north shore of Prince Edward Island. The area’s farmsteads, shoreline, forest paths, and social community were obvious influences on Maud who was a bright, sensitive, and creative child. She grew up surrounded by books and listening to stories told by her storytelling relatives.
A writer from a young age, Montgomery’s first poem was published at age 15 and she was an accomplished writer of short stories and poems by the early s. It was in , however, that Montgomery’s fame become widespread with the publishing of her first book, Anne of Green Gables. While publishers were initially reluctant to publish it, the story was an instant hit.

Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for a collection of novels, essays, short stories, and poetry beginning in with Anne of Green Gables. She published 20 novels as well as short stories, poems, and 30 essays. Anne of Green Gables was an immediate success; the title character, orphan Anne Shirley, made Montgomery famous in her lifetime and gave her an international following.[1] Most of the novels were set on Prince Edward Isla
