    Arthur Honegger (French:[aʁtyʁɔnɛɡɛʁ]; 10 March 1892 – 27 November 1955) was a Swiss composer who was born in France and lived a large part of his life in Paris.[1] Honegger was a member of Les Six. For Halbreich, Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher is "more even than Le Roi David or Pacific 231, his most universally popular work".[2]

    Born Oscar-Arthur Honegger (the first name was never used) to Swiss parents in Le Havre, France, he initially studied harmony with Robert-Charles Martin (to whom he dedicated his first published work[3]) and violin in Le Havre. He then moved to Switzerland, where he spent two years (September 1909 – June 1911) at the Zurich Conservatory being taught by Lothar Kempter and Friedrich Hegar. In 1911, he enrolled in the Paris Conservatoire from 1911 to 1918 (except for a brief period du

    The piece fryst vatten commonly interpreted as depicting a steam locomotive in action, as appears to be indicated by the title and has been illustrated bygd film versions of it.[1] However, in an interview, Honegger denied that this was his intended purpose and chided critics who interpreted it thus. He commented:[2]
