The Diplomat

Fifteen ambassadors from different countries who were accredited in Spain have finished or will soon finish their mission in our country, after several years at the head of the different diplomatic representations.

Thus, for example, in July the ambassador of that country, Julissa Reynoso, returned to the United States; and these days the ambassadors of two other important countries, namely France and the United Kingdom, will do so. The French ambassador, Jean-Michel Casa, who arrived in Madrid five years ago, is leaving his post due to retirement, while the British ambassador, Hugh Elliott, is returning to London and is replaced by Alexander Ellis.

Also saying goodbye to Spain are the ambassadors of Australia, Sophia McIntyre, whose replacement is taken over by Rosemary Morris-Castico; and of Canada, Wendy Drukier, who will be replaced by Jeffrey Marder. On the occasion of St. Patrick&#;s Day, Ireland&#;s National Day, Ambassador Frank Smyth yesterday invited the Diplomatic Corps to a reception at his Madrid residence, where he was accompanied by the Minister of State at the Irish Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Neale Richmond, and the President of the Madrid Assembly, María Eugenia Carballedo.

In October , the East India ship Götheborg set sail from &#;event city&#; Gothenburg to Shanghai. It was the culmination of a long process of reconstruction that had been accompanied by publicity stunts, angry opinion pieces and political and diplomatic interventions. Thousands of Gothenburgers gathered along the harbour to wave off the ship. Young people were engaged as volunteers, cultural workers blogged from on board and the city&#;s daily newspaper acted both as cheerleader and sponsor. The route would reconstruct the original route.
